IRONMAN BRASIL 2025 REGULATION

GENERAL RULES

1. The IRONMAN Brasil 2025, on June 1st, will be run under the following categories: Pro Men, Male Age-Group: 18 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, 70 to 74, 75 to 79, 80 plus and PC; Pro Women, Female Age-Group: 18 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, 70 to 74, 75 to 79, 80 plus and PC.

2. Elite Athletes can register until May 1st, 2025 by sending an email to contato@unlimitedsports.com.br.

3. It will be considered, for the classification in the age group, athlete’s age on December 31st, 2025. The minimum age for participation is 18 years old. As regards these rules, the reference date for the contestant’s age is the day of the race.

4. Any athlete holding elite/professional status from their National Triathlon Federation or an IRONMANProfessional Membership (as verified by elite/pro status of an athlete’s National Triathlon Federation) is prohibited from racing as an AGE GROUP athlete in ANY sanctioned triathlon events anywhere in the world, where there is an elite/pro wave, within the same calendar year. Disqualification and potential sanction from WTC events, and forfeiture of any AGE GROUP World Championship qualifying slots may result for any athlete that has not adhered to this policy.

5. Athletes can only register online at www.ironmanbrasil.com.br until May 1st, 2025, or when it achieves the technical limit. All athletes must pay the “day use” fee to the local Triathlon Federation, which will be informed close to the event. The athlete who does not do so, will not be able to check in for the race.

6. The registration fee will be informed at the Official Website – www.ironmanbrasil.com.br

7. Event cancellations, transfers and refunds:

7.1. All the registered athletes, excpet those transferred from other events and/or editions, will be authorized to transfer their registration to the 2026 IRONMAN Brazil, if slots are available, subject to these conditions: (a) transfer requests must be sent to the following email address: contato@unlimitedsports.com.br, by May 1st, 2025; (b) the athlete must complement the registration fee in case the race for which the transfer is made has a higher registration fee; (c) differences in lower amounts will not be reimbursed by the Organization; (d) the athlete must be aware that their right to transfer can only be exercised once and, by choosing to transfer the registration, waives any partial refund or transfer.

7.2. The registered athletes, excpet those transferred from other events and/or editions, who wish to have them cancelled for whatever reason, have until May 1st, 2025, to request an 50% (fifthy percent) reimbursement of the registration cost, except fees. The request must be made exclusively by the following email address: contato@unlimitedsports.com.br .

7.3. After May 1st, 2025, there will be no possibility of refund or event transfer.

7.4. The convenience fee is not refundable.

7.5. It is not possible to transfer the registration to other people, under any personal or medical reason.

8. Athlete’s check-in schedule is available at the Official Website.

9. The athlete who does not get the race kit according to this schedule will be disqualified and will lose the rights over the kit.

10. To collect the kit, the athlete must attend in person and present an official photo ID. The athlete must also sign the Medical Form, being aware of and agreeing to the Regulations, Norms and Procedures, and the Event Program.

11. The athlete must be aware of the Regulations, Standards, Procedures, and the Event’s Schedule.

12. An athlete who gives his/her race kit to someone else, as well as the athlete who receives it, will immediately be disqualified from the event and may be suspended for up to two years from any IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 race around the world.

13. The 2025 IRONMAN Brasil will qualify athletes for the 2025 IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – HAWAII among racers in Male and Female Age Group categories. Final slot allocation will be determined on race day based on the number of official starters in each age group. If there are no starters in a particular Age Group, no slot will be allocated. If there are no finishers in a particular Age Group that had at least one participant start then that slot will be moved to the next calculated Age Group within the gender. Athletes MUST claim their slot in-person at the qualifying race during the IRONMAN World Championship Slot Allocation and Rolldown Ceremony. Check the event schedule of events for time and location of the ceremony.

14. Anyone who wishes to claim a Rolldown slot must attend the IRONMAN World Championship Slot Allocation and Rolldown Ceremony and claim their slot in person. If an automatic qualifier in an Age Group chooses not to take the slot, does not attend the IRONMAN World Championship Slot Allocation and Rolldown Ceremony, or has already qualified, the next eligible finisher in that Age Group may claim the slot that has rolled down.

15. If there are no more eligible finishers in a particular Age Group or no other finishers in attendance at the IRONMAN World Championship Slot Allocation and Rolldown Ceremony in that Age Group, that unclaimed slot will be reallocated to another Age Group within the gender based on the athletes-to-slots ratio. The Age Group within the gender with the largest athletes-to-slots ratio will receive the first reallocated slot, followed by the next largest ratio receiving the second re-allocated slot (if applicable), and so on.

16.  The entry fee for the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship will be informed during the Athlete´s Briefing.

17. Considering modalities regulations and the technical and security aspects in the racecourses, Race General and Specific Rules can be modified until the beginning of athlete’s briefing.

18. It is elected the county board of Florianópolis, upon the express waiver of any other as privileged as it may be, for dispelling any doubts arising from this Race Regulation.

RACE TECHNICAL RULES

21. The race start will be on rolling start format, according to the Athelte’s Guide, available at the Official Website. Each athlete must start according to the race schedule described at the Athelte’s Guide. Any athlete who misses the start schedule window will be disqualified.

21.a. The athletes are obligated to wear the swimming cap given by the organization. The athlete who doesn’t wear it will be disqualified.

22. Bike check-in is mandatory according to the Athlete’s Guide, available at the Official Website. The athlete must present the equipment for the race: tattoos already marked on their arms, bike, helmet with the number sticker on the frontal part, and the bags for the bike and run. After check-in procedures, bikes will be set on the respective holders in the Transition Area and helmet and bags will be delivered by the athletes at the changing tent. Only the official bags will be accepted; no additional items which do not fit inside the bags will be allowed.

23. The use of the timing chip and chip holder provided by the Organization is mandatory for all contestants during the whole race. In case of loss, the competitor must inform the Organization. Athletes must have their chip in order to enter and claim their bike and gear, during bike check out. Or they’ll be billed R$ 350,00 (three hundred and fifty reais) for its replacement before having access to the transition area.

24. Bike check-out will happen exclusively on Saturday, according to the Athlete’s Guide, available at the Official Website, with the presentation of the bib number. If by any reason the athlete is not able to do it, he/she will appoint someone, through an appropriate document from the race-kit, and, with this, the athlete bib number and an official ID in hands he/she will be able to check out the bike and the bags.

25. Bike and Run special needs bags (orange and black bags), which use is optional, can be turned in by the athletes on the race day, according to the Athlete’s Guide, available at the Official Website, at the entrance of the Transition Area.

26. Special needs bags must contain only food items. The bags not taken during the race will be at the bike check out.

27. During the race, athletes are responsible for getting their Bike and Run special needs bags in pre-determined spots. Each of these sites will have a delimited area where the bags will be displayed according to numerical order in groups of one hundred.

28. By giving special needs bags to the race’s Organization, it is established that responsibility over them finishes at the moment the athletes pick them up at the Delivery Stations in the race, within the time limit for each leg. All the Special needs bags not taken will be immediately discarded and will not be returned to the athletes.

29. The Organization is not responsible for athletes’ belongings lost inside or outside the Transition area; it will, however, keep a sector for the “Lost and Found” Items. This sector will be open to delivering the material according to the Athelte’s Guide, available at the Official Website. The material which has not been picked up will be donated to charity entities.

30. Considering race start time, each portion has a time limit. The swim will have a maximum time of 2:20. The bike will have a 10:30 time limit, and the intermediate cut off at km 132 at 03:52 PM. The Run time limit is 17:00. The athlete who exceeds the time limit of either modality will be disqualified and must leave the course. After the time limit for each modality, the security facilities for each section will be dismantled. IRONMAN reserves the right to remove an athlete from the course and DNF athlete if our course staff demines there is no possibility of an athlete finishing the given discipline (swim, bike, run) before de posted cut-off times based on an athletes’ location, time average speed up to that point.

30.a.During the race, the last wave start will be considered to disqualify (DNF – did not finish)an athlete, being unable to proceed the race.

30.b. There is only one exception for cut off time at the bike course – the intermediate cut off. If an athlete doesn’t reach the km 132 until 3:52 PM, he/she will be disqualified and must leave the course.

31. The athlete who does not strictly conform to the course for each section will be eliminated or disqualified at any time if there is proof from the official documentary controls of the race.

32. Any physical or moral offense from a competitor or person directly linked to this towards any member of the Organization will be penalized with disqualification, and the offender may be suspended from any Ironman event promoted by Unlimited Sports.

33. Upon returning from the Swim (beach) and also on the Bike and Run courses, there will be electronic timing mats to control athletes’ passages throughout the course.

34. There’ll be one aid station on Swim, seven aid stations on the Bike with 16 pass-through, and nine aid stations with 23 pass-through on the Run course.

35. The athlete must change in the Transition Area; in case he/she does not do it, he/she will be disqualified.

36. Each athlete is exclusively responsible for getting their bags in the hanger, getting their material, putting it back inside the mags, and closing it in the specific Changing Tent.

37. On race day, the transition area will be open to the race schedule informed at the Athlete’s Guide, available at the Official Website.

38. The medical care service will be able to remove from the race any athlete who is unable to continue, according to medical criteria.

39. The organization has the power of taking any decision concerning the rules. Questions derived from the application or interpretation of the race’s specific Technical Regulation will be analyzed by a Competition Jury.

§1st The punished athlete can appeal to the Competition Jury regarding the official results, which will be published at Check-In Area, according to the Athlete’s Guide, available at the Official Website.

§2nd The appeal shall be referred to the Competition Jury by the punished athlete or his/her legal representative, or by an interested third part, to the Competition Jury President in a proper form given by the event organizer.

§3rd Deadline for presenting recourse will follow the race schedule according to the Athlete’s Guide, available at the Official Website, at the event’s office, upon the payment of a US$ 50.00 fee, which will be reimbursed in case of a favorable decision.

§4th The appeal must contain:

I – the applicant’s qualification;

II – the athlete’s bib number;

III – a short explanation of the facts which generated the recourse;

§5th The appeal must not be prepared against facts generated by the referee’s interpretation.

40. All athletes are subject to anti-doping testing.

41. Every athlete who finishes the race will receive a medal. The first top five in each age group will receive a trophy.

42. The athlete must be present or indicate someone to represent him/her at the awarding ceremony. The athlete who is not present at the ceremony may request his/her trophy to the Organization until 30 days after the race.

44. Friends or family members are not allowed to enter the finish chute and cross the finish line with any athlete. The athlete who does not respect this rule will be disqualified.

SWIM

43. The race starts at 6:45 AM according to the Athlete’s Guide, available at the Official Website.

44. The swim course will close 2 hours and 20 minutes after the final athlete starts the swim. Each athlete will have 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the 3.8km swim. Individual athletes who take longer than 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the swim will receive a DNF. IRONMAN officials reserve the right to pull athletes off the course who exceed any established course time cut-offs.

44.a. In the event the location does not present safety minimum standard conditions, the swimming start will be replaced by the cycling start in time trial mode. The procedures will be properly announced at the Technical Congress presentation. In exceptional situations of unforeseeable circumstances or force majeure, which may lead to the cancellation of the race altogether, the athletes will be notified by the Organization and their registrations will be transferred to another IRONMAN race or IRONMAN 70.3 race in Brazil, only if the registration is not closed and there is availability based on each category, without any additional costs, without implying in any liability of any nature to the Organizer, especially with regards to previous expenses for hosting and traveling.

45. The athlete must have his/her number marked on his/her body before the Bike Check-in.

46. The athlete must enter the start area through timing control mat.

47. The athlete must go around the buoys. The athlete who does not do it will be disqualified.

48. The athletes are obligated to wear the swimming cap given by the organization. The athlete, who doesn’t wear it, will be disqualified.

49. The use of any kind of auxiliary equipment to swim is forbidden. If an athlete uses it, he/she will be disqualified (except goggles and wetsuit clothes).

50. The use of a wetsuit is permitted to the athlete of the Age Groups at water temperature up to and including 24.6ºC. The Event´s Direction will measure and announce the water temperature on the Athletes’ Briefing, as an alert. One and a half-hour before the race start, a new measurement will be taken to determine whether the use is permitted or not; this measure will be announced by the sound system. If the water temperature is 24.6ºC or higher, the use of a wetsuit, compressions socks, and/or any kind of sleeve will be forbidden. In this case, it´s allowed the of swimwear (skinsuits/speedsuits) made of 100% textile material, such as nylon or lycra. Swimwear must not be consisted of rubberized material such as neoprene or polyurethane. It must not cover the neck, extend past the elbows and the knees. If an athlete wears a wetsuit without the event’s direction permission, he/she will be disqualified.

51. An Elite athlete can only compete wearing a wetsuit at water temperature up to and including 21.9ºC. Event’s Direction will measure and announce the water temperature on the Athletes’ Briefing days, as an alert. One and a half-hour before the start, a new measurement will be taken to determine whether the use is permitted or not; this measure will be announced by the sound system. If the water temperature is 22ºC or higher, the use of wetsuit will be forbidden. In this case, it’s allowed the use of swimwear (skinsuits/speedsuits) made of 100% textile material, such as nylon or lycra. Swimwear must not be consisted of rubberized material such as neoprene or polyurethane. It must not cover the neck, extend past the elbows and the knees. If an athlete wears a wetsuit without the event’s direction permission, he/she will be disqualified.

52. If an athlete wears a wetsuit without the event’s direction permission, he/she will be disqualified.

53. It’s forbidden to run on the beach, except in a specific area delimited by the organization. The athlete who does not obey it, will be disqualified.

54. Warming-up is allowed until the time informed at the Athlete’s Guide, available at the Official Website, in the specific area delimited by the organization. It´s forbidden to warm-up in front of the race start. The athlete who does not obey it, will be disqualified.

BIKE

55. The bike course will close 10 hours 30 minutes after the final scheduled Age Group starts the swim. Each athlete will have 10 hours and 30 minutes to complete the swim, T1, bike course regardless of when they start the swim. The cut-off time is 10:30 from the race start. There is also an intermediate cut-off time at km 132 at 3:52 PM – clock time. Any athlete that takes longer than 10 hours and 30 minutes to complete the swim, T1 and bike course, or do not reach the km 132 until 03:52 PM will receive a DNF and must leave the course.

56. The athlete must always wear a fastened helmet when in contact with his/her bike. In case the athlete does not do this, he’ll be disqualified.

57. Uniforms with a front zip must not be undone below the point of the end of the breastbone (sternum). The athlete will be disqualified if not remedied promptly.

58. Race number must be visible on the bike and on the helmet; it shall not be altered from its original format. Failure to meet this rule will result in a yellow card penalty.

59. The athlete has to push his/her bike until the mounting line and to get off the bicycle before the dismounting lane. In case he/she fails to do it, he/she will be penalized with a yellow card.

60. The Athlete Draft Zone is 12 meters, measured from the leading edge of the front wheel of the leading cyclists and extending towards the back of the bike. This means that athletes must maintain a 6 bike length of clear space between his or herself and the bike in front of them. Athletes will have 25 seconds to overtake an athlete. If the athlete does not obey this rule, he/she will be given a blue card and must stop at the nearest Penalty Box/Tent, remaining in the tent for 5:00 minutes and registering on the sign-in sheet. Each athlete is responsible for stopping at the next Penalty Box/Tent available on course.

61. A “pass” occurs when the overtaking athlete’s front wheel passes the leading edge of the front wheel of the athlete being overtaken.

61.a. The overtaking athlete (the athlete making the pass) may not back out of the draft zone after entering into it. Once an overtaking athlete enters the draft zone of another athlete, a pass must be completed. If a pass is not completed, the athlete will receive a blue card and must stop at the nearest penalty tent/area, remaining in the tent for 5:00 minutes and register on the sign-in sheet. Each athlete is responsible for stopping at the next Penalty Box/Area.

62. Trash or any material must be discarded only in the designated trash drop zones at each aid station. An athlete who discards any item outside this location will receive a blue card and a 5:00 minute time penalty.

63. When the athlete receives a yellow, blue or red card penalty, he/she will have his/her bib number called by the referee who will show the respective card to the penalization.

64. When the athlete receives a yellow card he/she must stop at the nearest penalty tent/area, remaining in the tent for 1:00 minute, and register on the sign-in sheet. Each athlete is responsible for stopping at the next Penalty Box/Area.

65. When in the penalty area, the athlete is only allowed to consume food and/or water that in on their bike or person. Athletes are prohibited from using the restroom while serving a penalty. Using the restroom while serving a time penalty will result in disqualification. Making adjustments to equipment or performing any type of bike maintenance while serving a penalty in the penalty tent is prohibited and will lead to disqualification.

66. It is forbidden to the athlete the use of headsets; its use is punished with a yellow card and may result in disqualification if the situation is not remedied promptly.

67. The accumulation of three blue cards (drafting and intentional littering*) will result in disqualification. Yellow cards will no longer count as a “strike” (penalty counting towards disqualification), but athletes may still be disqualified should the Head Referee consider the accumulation of yellow cards to be in violation of IRONMAN Competition Rules.

68. A red card may be issued to an athlete for severe rule violations including, but not limited to, repeated rule violations, disregard for directives given by Race Referees or Race Officials, or dangerous or unsportsmanlike conduct;

69. Athletes must not make any forward progress unaccompanied by their bicycles. If a bicycle is rendered inoperable, an athlete may proceed on the cycling course, running or walking, while pushing or carrying the bicycle, so long as the bicycle is pushed or carried in a manner not to obstruct or impede the progress of other athletes. RUN

70. The run course will close 17 hours after the final Age Group starts. Each individual athlete will have 17 hours to complete the entire course. Individual athletes who take longer than 17 hours to complete the entire course will receive a DNF.

71. The use of the race number is mandatory. In case the athlete does not observe this rule, he/she will be disqualified. The race number must be placed in the frontal part of the athlete’s body, clearly visible and unaltered in any way. In case it is not, the athlete will be disqualified.

72. Individual non-participant escort runners or cyclists are prohibited. If a Referee identifies such an event, the athlete will receive a yellow card.

73. Uniforms with a front zip must not be undone below the point of the end of the breastbone (sternum). The athlete will be disqualified if not remedied promptly.

74. It is forbidden to the athlete the use of headsets; its use is punished with a yellow card and may result in disqualification if not remedied promptly.

75. Trash or any material must be discarded only in the designated trash drop zones at each aid station. The athlete who discards any item outside this location will receive a blue card and a 5:00 minute penalty.

76. An Athlete who receives one red card or accumulates three BLUE cards will be disqualified.
